Here's a question for the more knowledgeable of us lot here on crackberry.

I love my Q10 but the scaling of android apps is terrible.

IF the Q30 ended up being a 4:3 display phone would it help with this problem?

I noticed android phones have a variety of aspect ratios from 4:3, 15:9, 16:9 and a host of others.

Im no expert, but i'll go ahead and say yes, 16:9 / 15:9 screen would solve the scaling issue with those android apps. Im not sure if there are any current android phones in existence, with a 1:1 screen; so there are zero (near zero?) android apps that will be made for a square screen.

I have a z10 and a q10, android apps generally look fine on the Z, and a little out of whack (or terribly out of whack, with UI elements over lapping each other) on the Q..

My question was about the 4:3 ratio. Most tablets are in this form I think and many older phones, but lg has recently released a snapdragon 800 device called LG optimus Vu which has a 4:3 5inch screen.

Reason im asking this is because I really cant see a 16:9 or 15:9 qwerty phone but a 4:3 maybe possible.

I like the 1x1. I don't use Andoid apps ans would not buy a 4:3.

Removing the bar from the bottom of Android ports helps with some of the scaling issues.

May be 3:4, 4:3 would make it super wide if it's bigger than 3".

Android apps aside, the 1:1 can still be annoying; taking pictures for instance... if u take em 1:1, they look great on the Q, and awkward everywhere else.. if u take em wide-screen mode, they look tiny on the q10 and fine elsewhere..

Same with watching videos.. I certainly don't watch movies on my q, but I do watch the odd utube vid or whatnot, the video only uses half of the already tiny screen..

And same thing with the hdmi out; while it's nice that the stock video player will match a tv's resolution and aspect ratio for hdmi out, everywhere else on the phone looks awkward with hdmi out- only fills the center of the output display, leaving a 1;1 square in the centre of your tv...

I don't mind the 1:1 myself, but it's such an odd duck that I can't imagine it has a great future. I think a 4:3 qwerty is feasible, and would at least help. BB10's future depends, to a great extent, on Android apps, so it's a priority that those apps should work as well as possible. A 4:3 screen won't solve all problems, but it will solve some.
