So, I have a pretty new classic. I am on 10.3.2.556. I see that there are some updates out there but I have not received any. I am on Verizon. Am I on the most updated OS or is it that VZW has yet to release the latest update...

Synchronise passwords to BlackBerry Cloud (2 way). Share contacts with email. Delete prior backups in BlackBerry Link.

    Then
    1. Remove SIM card
    2. Remove SD card
    3. Disable Location Services in Settings
    4. Connect mobile to Windows computer with USB cable
    5. Click Reload OS in Preferences in BlackBerry Link
    6. Wait 9 hours

Don't disconnect from Internet. Don't disconnect USB cable. Else, your mobile will turn into a brick.

Note : Reset OS means reinstalling prior OS version that already came in your mobile. Reload OS means installing latest OS version (location neutral).

You have the latest OS provided by Verizon for your device.

If you want something newer, you will have to upgrade yourself using an autoloader or Sachesi (guides are available for both in the leaked OS stickies).

Here is a link to the latest autoloader:

This solution would only work if the OP had a factory-unlocked device and it was having trouble detecting the update with the SIM Card inserted (which is rare).

Additionally, what you are suggesting is no better than simply popping out your SIM, rebooting, and checking for updates over WiFi. (again, only for factory-unlocked devices having trouble seeing the available update)
