Default What else can you put on the Dev unit?

Besides testing your own apps can you side load other apps and is it possible to play movies and mp3?

I was also wondering this. Are current playbook apps compatible with the dev unit? If not, hard is it to convert a playbook app to properly run on the dev unit? Thanks.

angry birds rio works . It only comes with two icons browser and camera. Nothing else you can do. I was going to make a list of working app sbut I guess we can just consolidate here. PS tapatalk works too.. My apps work(load and can execute) as well.. except minor adjustments should be made to make them functional (similar pixel sizes on a PB means same button is 1/3 of the size on the dev device.. ie. need tiny fingers )

It's not possible to play movies or mp3's "out of the box", but you can develop apps to do that. There are a couple of sample apps that show you how to play videos or mp3's, adjust the volume at certain intervals, etc., but you'd actually need to build the app to do it.

I imagine you can side-load apps, but I won't really be bothering with that much.

Sideloading is the only way to get apps on it right now.

Angry Birds Space HD for Playbook is a native app, not an android app.

This is somewhat inaccurate.. You can access the internal files via the browser.

    Enter URL: file:///accounts/1000

Bookmark it, you then have access to all the internal files through the 1000 user account.

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

if that's indeed an Android App and not the Native Angry Birds Space then that is awesome ;D...I think it is the native one though

seeing that the battery barely lasts 4 hours even when idle, probably pointless installing stuff to make it more usable. apparently the battery is only 1400mah, so even if they release the official BB10 os chances are it wont be practical to use as a phone.

The battery may last only 4 hours (in standby) but that's only when the device is acting up. I put Battery Guru on it and, though some features are broken, I managed to get a graph that shows it would last for at least 10h, more like 12h, just idling in standby.

The 1400mAh value matches my measurements (where did you hear it?) but that means it should last for 4-5h with the screen actually on. I agree it would be entirely impractical for any sort of phone use in the current form... on par with LTE Android devices perhaps. ;-)
Battery Guru for BB10 tracks voltage, power, battery health. (Also on the PlayBook.) White Noise helps you sleep or concentrate.

You can also sideload the playbook music video and photo apps on it.
I've sideload a lot of stuff, and except for a few RIM apps everything is working. A fewbof my own apps won't even require anything to me released on BB10.

    Default Web Works apps

Has any one had any success loading any webworks apps? I have tried to load several of mine(after tweaking config.xml as it supposed to be, signing etc) and they seem to load on the device(icon on screen, permissions granted etc) yet when I launch it only displays "BlackBerry" default screen for a few seconds then crashes back to "desktop".
I even tried one of the sample apps from documentation and same thing.

Not sure if this is specific to my device or if its my code.

In response to web works questions, it seems that if I load my Playbook apps as they are they all load and run on the device, but when I "compile" them using the BB10 SDK & Ripple then load they don't work.

Anyone else experience this or have some insight?

No problem here (with previous and current beta versions). You might have certificates problem, so that I'll suggest you try with a debug token instead (you don't have to sign the app).

Also be sure you use the correct SDK (platform/version).

I've sideloaded a ton of apps that work great. Evernote, Twitter for Android, Facebook, Accuweather, K9 mail, Dropbox, LastPass ...

Some randomly crash at certain times, and not all the alerts/notifications work as they should, but they are pretty good overall.
