Skype on the Dev Alpha device
I just watched The Verge's hands on video of the Dev Alpha phone and noticed an icon for Skype BETA at about 1:52 into the video
Not sure if it is a BB10 app or an Android one, but the BETA title has me thinking something is afoot and I'm hoping this will hit the PB before the BB10 phones are released
The video can be found here: BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha developer testing device hands-on impressions (update: video) | The Verge - 05-02-2012, 03:33 PM #2
It's about time.
BB10 is released. - 05-02-2012, 03:42 PM #3
There's a Skype Beta app that can be sideloaded into the PlayBook. I have it installed, but it can't be used to video chat, only text sending. Android apps can't access the camera...

good eye. I hope it's not just a sideload attempt of a beta version floating around.

That's the android app. There's nothing pre-loaded on the regular dev-alpha other than the browser...

Idk...as nice as that would be, it seems from the video that all the apps shown other than the browser and setup app are Android sideloads=/

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think really.. It could be a sideloaded Android app - but then again why would it have the BETA name?
Then again, maybe its the same app that kemj has sideloaded - hard to say really .. - 05-02-2012, 03:59 PM #9

Yes, we are all painfully aware of that

Worth noting, the camera API on the Playbook will be available on the 2.1 update... maybe Skype will finally work...?
