    To answer the OPs question:

    - Yes, it looks like the BB10 OS can be pushed to a dev alpha, the same as you can push BB10 beta os to a PlayBook

    - Initial investigation suggests it may actually bypass the bricking. But this is not the only way to bypass it.

    - It won't really work well though. Much like the BB10 Beta push to PB, the drivers "just aint right" and the sdks do things the dev alpha can't handle.

Bc of this I don't know if the mic, audio, wifi, cellular, calling or txting will work.

Hub, BBM, Browser probably will run at least.

One of the smarter folks on our group is looking into it closer.

In the latest build, everything is working on the Dev B/A, including BB Protect (though the device doesnt register properly on the servers yet).

The SIM dose work on Dev Alpha, when i used the SIM and tried to call my Dev Alpha, it did started to ring but their was no way to receive it. After the last update it dose not ring any more
The Dev Alpha as said are fully functional phone - its all a matter of Software. RIM has announced that they will provide a software update that will activate the hub. I expect that with the software update later today the Dev Alphas will become fully functional for a limited amount of time.

What would even be the point? If you want a cheap way to use BB10, buy a PlayBook for when the BB10 OS gets ported to it.

The BB10 devices are phones as well. The tablet has its purposes, but it isnt the same thing.

yep, but it's nearly 1GB (and I already hit my internet monthly transfer cap) and it's still older release (10.0.9.2320) and when next release arrives (soon probably) again 1GB - that's is painful
