I had a brief look at a Dev Alpha yesterday and couldn't find anywhere to use the swipe up gestures of the keyboard. At the end got to use it on another device for a brief minute. But does the Dev Alpha in any way include this keyboard? Also, is it locked into Portrait mode?

It absolutely does. And it's beautiful...

As for "locked" in portrait mode, it depends on the app. I will say, the Dev Alpha seems to be heavily skewed toward portrait use, but many apps can be used in landscape.
