You don't need Blackberry Internet services...BIS....on BB10 phones. They use ordinary phone data. If you are prepared to use the phone just indoors you can use it with just wifi and without a sim. Of course that would not give you calls etc, but it shows how versatile the BB10 is.

So yes...you can use the BB10 with just wifi

What? I thought you needed BIS on any blackberry when your outdoors? And not connected to wi-fi

My 9320 I needed it no matter what, wi-fi or no wi-fi

And my Q5 I thought you needed it for outdoors but if you was only on wi-fi you wouldn't need BIS?

Jordss, the legacy BB, you are correct. You needed your BlackBerry plan to operate fully regardless of mobile or wifi. With BB10, you don't need any special plans to operate. You should be getting the same offers as any Android or iPhone standard data plan available. Keep in mind, however, that you will need a higher data allotment than your previous BlackBerry plan as there isn't the data compression.

Yeah! BlackBerry 10 is totally different than the old BBOS. It can work without BIS.

You will need an ordinary data plan...as someone else mentioned...the sort android etc use. Have a look on your network website to see what plans they have before you ring to cancel the BIS

I had 500mb on my old BIS plan and never went over. With my new plan, I have 1gb and have come close a few times. I am probably an exception as I'm almost always on wifi. I'd suggest going with 1, know what the overage penalty is (mine isn't too bad), and decide as you go how much is sufficient for your use.

Well...I was scared daft when I got rid of my BIS cos the data compression had gone and I saw folks on here saying they had used 6GB a month...

So I did some tests. With the Z10 on the table just doing nothing apart from its few bits it did itself, it used 1Mb per day. But bear in mind I have everything set to manual....nothing syncs or updates unless I want it to.

When I started BBMing the most I used a month was 100 MBs. But it depends whether you do a few of a lot.

I have 1G of data allowance per month and I never get anywhere near that....but most of the day I am on wifi at home.

Don't have less than 1G....and if you are on social media a lot or browsing a lot have more. See what allowance you get and why you can afford and go for the higher allowance rather than just a bit.

Well currently I've got 500 MB and blackberry services, so having blackberry services will it cause more data to be used? Or will it have no effect at all and I'm wasting my money on it?

I do browse a bit and use bbm a lot, would 500 MB be enough?

If you're using it at home all the time, instal Bluestacks android for pc then get BBM for google play store and instal it and use it on your klaptop or pc/mac. No fees and the benefit of a full big screen and keyboard.

The BIS compresses data so the things you do on an older BlackBerry won't take much data.

The BB10 range don't compress data so you use more.

I would strongly advise not to go with less than 1g.

BB10 devices no longer use BIS so it won't do anything unless you have legacy devices as noted by other members above.

No. BIS doesn't get involved in your BB10 data traffic.

I'm not even going to bother taking it off haha

I'm on o2 UK, Pay as you go... And it's top up 15 pound a month and get 500 UK texts, 500MB of Internet and BIS and keep your top up

The other tariff is top up 15 pounds and get 500 UK texts, 500MB of Internet and keep your top up

So I wouldn't be getting anything extra, pretty dissapointing tbh...

Ok maybe someone can help me out.

I've been trying to work BIS on my Curve 8520 so I can have a second whatsapp account. I put the sim I have in my current Q10 inside the 8520 and doesn't detect BIS (with or without wifi connected).

    Can someone help? Thanks
