Anyone not a big fan of the BB10 design
It looks to bricky its good for the playbook but i would've made like a full touch screen Bold 9900 make it look nice.

As noted numerous times throughout the presentations, it's a prototype alpha device; It will most likely not even resemble the final production model. Also, the Bold 9900 is already a full touch screen...

Alpha devices are often bulky, have very cheap build and very low battery life.
They are designed to be plugged in to the wall or a computer 24/7 for development (i.e. creating applications).
The devices are designed to be as cheap as possible while still being able to run the desired applications at the desired speed. The devices are given away for free.
This device doesn't resemble the final design (or even at any stage, a planned design). It also doesn't resemble final processor, RAM and other materials. - 05-04-2012, 01:41 AM #5
Actually, I like the phone. If only it had a prototype BB10 OS instead of Tablet OS...

Agreed! I think they need two phones. BOLD and TORCH. Those are the two brands that have great success. Not to say the CURVE isn't successful, but to say.... As RIM moves forward they should consider minimizing their work to two types of phone. The bold should be full touch from this point on. Especially after seeing that new keyboard on the Alpha Dev. The Bold 9900 has awesome hardware. Now use that image with the size of the Alpha Dev and you have a DAMN sexy phone. No one could deny RIM's position. The torch needs to continue as a slide. That will satisfy the physical keyboard user. This is of course, thinking about RIM moving forward. All-in-all, I'm very excited about the new phones. RIM, keep on your path!

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the software and not the dev alpha device.
So, if you are referring to the software, from what I've seen I'm not a fan.Current devices: iPhone 4S 32GB (Black) & Blackberry Bold 9930

Using a device already that is similar in size, I'd find rhat form ti be quite usable. 4.3 is right on for a full touch device. Good in the hand for portrait or landscape for 2.
And I doubt you see the final form in the alpha, by any shake. - 05-05-2012, 09:06 AM #12
The OS on the Dev Alpha isn't BB10 - it is a modified Playbook OS with some of the BB10 features added for testing. The devices being used on stage during the keynote even had a different version running (tiles, updated keyboard, updated camera app). There is enough there for us to start development, but I wouldn't expect the final release to look like what is on the Dev Alpha.

I can't believe we're even having this discussion. It's very clear: This is not final hardware or software. This is testing hardware and software. The final device will not look or behave anything like this, i.e. the screen is probably the ONLY thing that will remain the same (1280x768). I wish people would just READ instead of looking at pictures and sending their immediate opinion to the world via the internet.

I hope you realize that there is a BIG chance you are completely wrong. Yes, OF COURSE the software doesn't represent even 10% of what the final product will. But as far as hardware goes, I'm (most of us) aren't expecting a whole lot more than what the dev alpha is. Like I said earlier, maybe a 9700->9780 difference (in hardware) - not saying, just sayin.

I think the design is a creative fluid idea, but i thought the graphics were low grade, not a 3D look or detail. I hope they come out with something even better then what was at BB World!
