Why won't whatsapp charge an annual fee, and keep the app running at least for bb10 devices.

I am sure a lot of users wouldn't mind that.

Charge us an annual fee and keep it running I'd say.

To make it viable, the cost would possibly be closer to tens of thousands a year for each user.

Why don't you suggest that to Whatsapp management?

By your calculations, there aren't enough months in the year to make the $1 a month add up to tens of thousands of dollars a year.

Then doing without appears to be in your future.

The .apk should meet my needs until I upgrade next summer. If no new BlackBerry 10 device, I'll be picking up one of their Android offerings. I'll make due nonetheless. Options is all the rage lately right?

Because that's not true. It'd be even more of an incentive to people to move to another platform : Why should I pay WhatsApp a dollar month when I can go to Android to get it free plus a whole lot of other apps anyway.

A subscription model for apps hasn't been demonstrated for apps outside of those for content ie Netflix or niche apps. That could change in the very near future, both Apple and Google are rolling out other monetization paths for devs but for BB10 users thats too late.

Plus a subscription model is not what WhatApp wants anyway. They want it to be free and have everyone use WhatsPay, WhatsShop, and WhatXYZ and WhatsApps gets a slice of each transaction of a massive amount of users and BB can't provide those users.

Forget it, just keep using what's app for BlackBerry till December, then the Android app and keep using it, if BlackBerry updates the run time, well and good, if not I am going to buy the Mercury. Neither Blackberry nor Whatsapp are gonna do anything about it, let's just move on guys.
