Just wondering why? Because it the most widely used message service app in South Africa & loosing this will hurt BlackBerry sales here...

probably a business decision. although whatsapp has a billion users worldwide, hardly anyone uses a BB10 device nowadays (0.2% marketshare).
if whatsapp is a necessity for you, get an Android or iOS device.

The BlackBerry Android device might be the way forward for users in that market if BlackBerry is to survive there.

This move is on the part of WHATSAPP, not on Blackberry's part.

So, although you are correct that this will likely hurt BB sales in South Africa, it's out of BB's control, it's the actual software vendor who has taken the action.

You could get a Priv or Dtek 50/Neon! Those BlackBerry Android devices will still support Whatsapp and any and all Android apps!

It's partly out of BlackBerry's control. They could've done something to prevent them from leaving. That's how MS does it (WA being available despite Windows Phone/Mobile only slightly higher marketshare than BB10 only because MS pays them).
