The contact names don't show up in the favourites tab. I just see the display pictures and statuses.

Did you recently change OSes? It takes about 8-10 hours for the names to pop in to match the pictures. Give it time.

I have the same problem, some names do populate over time (days/weeks) but when I restart my phone its back to square one.
Not all contacts are blank, some shows the numbers even though they are in my contact list.

I haven't changed the OS recently. It has been around a week since I had done that.

Sometimes it automatically gets fixed. But there are always some contacts(atleast 1) whose names do not show up.

Yes. Even I have noticed that. Editing the contact sometimes fixes the issue temporarily.

Same happend to me this morning. Out of the blue, didn't update anything or what so ever just all contacts were gone and showed only the numbers. Updated it an hour ago and even more contacts disappeared.

Had this issues last week when I upgraded my SD card for a larger one. In the end I backed up the conversations, deleted whatsapp, rebooted the phone just in case and then reinstalled. Had no issues since. Whole process took 5 minutes.

I suspect there is a file somewhere on your phone or SD card which is a database of your contacts and for some reason this has messed up.

Delete and reinstall has not helped straight away although I no longer have blank contacts. Now some just show number. Will leave it over night to populate.

Glad to know im not the only one having this issue. I also suspect that it has something with linked contacts, as a matter of fact im pretty sure it has something with linked contacts because almost all the names that are not showing are contacts that are linked through either facebook or twitter or linkedin.
I tried all possible fixes (deleting the app then reinstalling, killing the app process and the contacgs app process, soft reboot and hard reboot,...) but nothing. sometimes it vets fixed for a ahort period of time (moat probably when I edit the contact) but then disappears again.

I was thinking of reaching whatsapp for a solution, but then said to myself, they will most probably tell me that since im running a non offical os (10.2.1047) they wont be able to assit me

Will post back for any noticable changes

It's just damn annoying cause it happend randomly. No new apps installed no new os and no reboot. It just happend. To fu..ing weird if u ask me!

same here.

i removed all my accounts, gmail, facebook, twitter. restarted the device, and re-added them.

now all contacts are available in whatsapp, and not conversation without a name.

worth trying..

Okay guys I fixed it, my contacts were synchronised with my outlook account, I had the account reset and after a reboot it all appeared again!

As I suspected, the problem was with linked contacts. Another way to fix it, a longer if I might add, is to go through each single contact, tap it then tap edit then tap save. It would automatically push a tefresh for whatsapp and it fixes the problem
