The beta version of WhatsApp Messenger is now publicly available via the BlackBerry Beta Zone. See this post for more details. The information below is now outdated, from when we were doing a less-public sandbox beta.

I'm pleased to announce that we are now opening up WhatsApp on BlackBerry 10 to beta testers from the community. This will be done via the BlackBerry World sandbox, so there are limits to how many users we can add and how quickly we can add them. We will stop adding users once we reach capacity, however we will be trying to add as many as possible.

To join the beta, please use either the "Contact Support" feature within our app, or directly send an Email to "[email protected]". In the body of the message, please use the keyword "WABeta" and provide us with your BlackBerry ID. (Please make sure these items are both in the body of the message, not the subject, since that makes it easier for us to search for them. We also do not need any additional information from you.)

Once we add you, we will send you a follow-up Email with instructions on how to install our beta version from the BlackBerry World sandbox. We may also send you follow-up Emails notifying you of updates to our beta release. Also note that while we make sure all of our language translations are completely updated for our public releases, translations may be incomplete in beta versions.

Please keep in mind that this process is not automated, so don't expect us to reply immediately, after-hours, or over weekends. (We are in the US/Pacific time zone.)

Once the BlackBerry Beta Zone opens up to 3rd party developers, we plan to migrate our beta releases there.

Beta test new features and bugfixes
You saw what happened last time when they updated and Hub's went bonkers with duplicate icons and glitching chats
Think they would like to prevent stuff like that from happening again

Wow I wonder what's gonna be changed? Is the whatsapp that's in BBW not good enough?

Personally I see WhatsApp moving in to BB10 as a publicity stunt to get its name back in the business since BBM went cross platform.

But I'm not complaining if we have a quality native app in BBW

Whatsapp for BB Q10 lags sometimes.
    On 10.2 though.

Also, please add the 'recent' 'frequent' tab for emoticon like in android and ios. Have to swipe and find the emoticon I used

New features. Best way to make sure it's ironed out before release.

Why do you think BBM beta test before releasing?
