i was about to download Orb, but it seems that the file player can stream remote files just fine.
As the (pre-installed) file manager does not handle smb i installed Ghost Commander, afaik an android port, which i already used with my PlayBook.
On the PB the intent is unsupported, but on the BB10 it has "open with browser" and "open with file player", the second one plays the file.

I tested several avi and mkv files, all played successfully and i was able to move forwards and backwards in the video.

Just thought i'd post about it here, as it seems to be a topic that is often discussed.

do you have the bar somewhere handy?

I have iis setup installed on my home pc so i can stream from it to my playbook but i haven't tried this on my bb10 phone yet.

This is fantastic news, thanks!! Hope they bring this to the PB (though Kalemsoft player does the trick natively)

Just look for it on BB World, the developer has done a port directly.
