You can sideload bars onto the playbook still. The question is whether the runtime of the PB will be able to run it, keeping in mind it does not have native android core enabled, nor does it support apps after 2.3.3
Snap relies on the inherent ability of 10.2.1 to install apk directly. This is not available on PB OS, hence there is no way SNAP will work

hmm. Is there a way to know what version the bar file is so I know if it will work prior to sideloaing it on my playbook?

What do you mean what version? I suspect you mean whether it is pre or post 2.3.3? Again, that's not the major issue. It's whether it uses native code
I'm not sure whether you understand the relationship between bar file and apk, and how they work in terms of the android runtime

Seems like whether you can load Snap on the PlayBook or not is irrelevant.

You can't do on the PlayBook what you can do on the BB10 phones - and only BB10 phones running an OS 10.2.1.1055 or newer. That is - directly load apk files. The sole purpose of Snap is to download apk files and then run the built-in installer. The PlayBook OS would have no idea what to do with an apk file.
