    CNN has push notifications, at least on Android. And they have either a native or an Android port for BB10 (i.e. one that is not sideloaded.) Maybe you'd want to give it a try?

    Depends on the push method. If they rely on Google Framework, that isn't included in the Android Player.

    NY Times app definitely has push notifications, although I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason for a story to trigger a notification.
