I want to manually lock the phone and NOT have to press the power button. I cant find any app that does this simple job or even just an app to turn the screen off without having to wait for the designated time out. Send a text, touch the icon and lock the screen thats all- but seems like none are available in the app store. Can anyone help? I am pressing the power button but want an app to click the phone screen not reach fr the button.

    Thanks
    Ajay

I asked this question before, and one of the members here told me that after examining the current available BlackBerry 10 API's, it would not be possible at this time.

I have to ask...what's wrong with pressing the power button? How would the app work, in your opinion, OP?

I want this app badly as well. Pressing the power button to lock ruins the flow. Because we can easily unlock the phone by swiping the screen, it would make sense if we can also lock the phone back with a touch of an icon on the screen, even my old OS 7 Bellagio 9790 had it, why not BB10?

Built in. Settings > display >lock screen timeout. Set to 30 seconds. No button to hit.

Nah, 30 secs taking too long. When you are on the move, you need to quickly swipe the screen to turn it on and see the messages, then quickly press a lock button app and slide it back into your pocket without worrying about the screen being accidentally touch. No need to wait 30 secs.

Ah I see our disconnect. I use a shell hip holster. Don't wanna have anything in my pocket hitting my phone.

That is just one example though. Even when working on the desk, I just dont like having the screen on for 30 secs before turning off by itself everytime I got a message, that is a waste of battery juice imagine if you have hundreds of messages and emails and bbms and each of them waste 30 secs of battery power just for the screen to be idle.

You could buy a case. It will lock automatically, if you place it ON the case, too. No need to put it in.

    Helped my battery A LOT!

This is one of the reason why BB10 OS is lacking and limited to developers. BB promised an open apis and yet ALOT are still missing.

I agree with this. This whole half-baked products from BlackBerry is what's killing them, very frustrated with the way they handle things too. Giving out promises too much and too easily and very slow in delivery. If OS7 can do it, OS10 should at least cover all those capabilities of OS7 plus A LOT MORE.

You obviously fail to see the 'flow' mate. Button is so OS7.

I have to disagree. The pushing of a button does not interfere with the idea of "flow" as intended. I would say that refers to the method of movement between apps and other functions, such as checking the hub, responding to emails, texts, bbm, etc...

Locking your screen through an app, or a button is not a function of "flow", as I see it.

Honestly, no offense, but that looks like a gimmick app, not anything really useful. If you want true security, just put a password lock on the phone.

Swipe the top side of the phone, still flows.. you just need to swipe harder

Oh yeah, it's a gimic, but it does function, it will lock the screen so you can't miss dial etc.

I don't use it any more since the simple password option came along.

I have to agree...I like the simple password option. For me, I'm in the habit of using the power button on both my z10 and q10, so no app required.
