Default New Arrivals section in BlackBerry World

Unfortunately it seems like this section is going to be plagued with the same junk the PlayBook section was, filled with "books". This morning I checked and there are about 15 books of Chinese poetry and a number of steamed fish cookbooks.

Surely BlackBerry could create a book section and leave the apps section free for (hopefully) all the good new nice apps we have been promised

Default New Arrivals section in BlackBerry World

They won't until they catch up with windows phone numbers wise. I think they are closing in on 100k in apps soon while Windows phone is Boasting 130k.

Its a fight for 3rd place and the ecosystem is important.

Do the other platforms count this stuff as apps as well?

Yes, all platforms have the same junk. Android has a TON of dumb apps that I don't think anyone ever downloads. They have the same problem with "book apps" but they also have a ton of useless widgets (a TON of flashlight button widgets) and live wallpapers that also count as apps. The same is true for iOS. There are statistics that say something like 90% of all downloads are the top 200 apps in Android and iOS, and that 80% of apps have never been downloaded. Those numbers aren't exact, but something like that.

I think there really should be a new section curated by BlackBerry named something like "New and Notable" or "Hot New Apps". This should be the place they promote the new apps with some mass appeal (e.g. Skype, Instagram, and Rdio, etc when they finally launch). That's the kind of place I'd check first.

They already have that. They feature apps all the time in categories like "Get Social" and "Business Apps" etc. and on top of that, they have a whole "Made For Blackberry" category that's devoted to "good" apps

Not to mention the section for trending apps and games.

Has anyone noticed that the 'New Arrivals' section has disappeared from BlackBerry World? Although often filled with crap (like 100 translation apps or 50 maps for world cities), it was useful for seeing what had just arrived.

I think separating out Book apps from others makes sense as the original poster suggests. Since we know they will never add a "Crappy Apps" section, at least they could move "Book apps" into another area...

Yeah, we were hoping that our latest BB10 productivity app - Smart Contact Share would appear in that section.

Something has to be done about all the crap apps out their. I get that its super important to appeal to developers blah blah blah, but an emphasis also needs to be put on the consumer experience. I'd rather have App World filled with 1000 top quality apps then 100,000 sh!t apps that I have to spend time filtering through every single time I want to download something. If Blackberry had super strict quality control of applications in App world and actually enforced this, it could be a significant selling point.

Only for apps. Still there for games. Wonder why? Hiding all the crappy new apps?

    Noticed it too.

Would love to have more ways to track new apps that are decent from junk apps that are just filler.

I wonder if it has something to do with US launch?

Your preaching to the choir here; sadly, it's more likely that you will win the lottery than have BB address this. People have been calling for this, along with other advanced search options in BBW since the launch date of the Playbook. It is clear that RIM is either unable or unwilling to implement advanced searching features and additional categories into BBW. It's absurd how BBW is organized. Heck, they even, in their infinite wisdom, took down the Built for Blackberry section. Thankfully that is in the process of coming back. But as it stands now, BBW is a mess. Then again it's not as bad as the new Sony Ps3 storefront lol.
The Z10 will be my last BB phone; switching platforms.
