I've been having issues with iGrann Pro. It doesn't refresh the activity window, so I don't know when I'm tagged or commented on.

I've tried reinstall several times. Same issue. This is on my BlackBerry Passport with the latest os.

Should I switch to inst10? Is it better?

I have never had the issue you are having with iGrann, but I have had issues with Insta10 (notifications mostly). Maybe you would have better luck with Insta10 than I had.

I have that problem with iGrann every once in a while. It always resolves itself in a few hours though.
ICrammy is a lot better IMHO but it's temporarily unavailable from BlackBerry World.

I chose iGrann Pro. No issues.

I experienced the same problem until I found the solution in the news section of the IGRAN. You need to have the run in background turned on. Normally I do not use this feature on my apps to save data and power. Turned it on and a whole stack of likes etc came up.
