With the release of whatsapp, I'm wondering what will become of the beta project. Personally I found openwhatsapp terrific. Some bugs and no hub notifications hurt but it is a solid app.

The chat interface felt more bb10 than the official app, it had better flow and a cleaner ui imo.

I hope the developer continues to update it, a free alternative is always welcome.

Honestly, I downloaded WhatsApp but deleted it shortly after and went back to OpenWhatsApp. Its an all around nicer program than the official App. Cleaner and much smoother.

I love the open what app better. I don't like having it open, but it seems more like a BB10 app then the original. I too hope the project will continue.

Well I suspect the devs on the open whatsapp project spent a lot more time on the app than the official whatsapp devs did and probably studied up on what BB10 apps were suppose to do and how the user was supposed to interact with them. As well it probably did not hurt that the dev is a nokia dev so he would have had a lot of previous knowledge with qt which cascades is built in.

Also, you'll note in the forums and app world review page that many Z10 users, myself included, have been getting installation errors with whatsapp (probably due to the OS on their particular device). So I think that there will still be many people that continue to use open whatsapp and hopefully it will remain as competition to the official app.

I like it better too. If they release it with notifications and hub, I use it as my primary app

I prefer open whatsapp as well. The UI is smoother and much more beautiful than the original.
Except the fact that Owhatsapp has to be open to get notified, everything is better.
I have deleted the original and I kept the open app.
Really hope that the Dev will continue to update his "Baby"

Developer has hinted that an update is coming this weekend
I will definitely check it out. The WhatsApp released yesterday leaves a lot to be desired for me.

Haha, I couldn't wait and installed the current open version despite a new build possibly coming this weekend.

Wow. What an upgrade. WhatsApp should be embarrassed with what they put out.

I love Open WhatsApp and will re-download when BlackBerry release the APIs and updates that will allow hub integration and better linking to the contacts. All of my contacts are synced to one service or another so my OpenWhatsApp contact list was bare. :'(. Dab app, though. Love the design.

The only thing missing from Open Whatsapp is the support for emoticons. I love OpenWhatsapp more than the native app, but I need the emoticons. Hopefully this will be updated soon.

Emoticons and the ability to send pictures at a normal size. I've had complaints in my whatsapp groups that images are tiny.

OWhatsapp is a decent alternative, but the inability to click through on links, and having to leave it open as an active frame were what led me to use the official app.
