Well I purchased Mega Emoji from apps store and still see the boxes that your referring in BBM.
I thought if I buy the app it would solve that problem, so I'm still searching to see if there is anything for that issue to be resolved as the boxes are annoying and I know what you mean.
I have attached an example of the boxes issue.

I really hope they add Emoji support in upcoming software updates.

I remember when I was using OS7, I can download and replace some system files to see emoji universally, even if they are black and white icons, least I can interpret the boxes. Not sure if this is possible on OS10...

Emojis are the default way that Apple iOS devices send/receive "smileys". Without it, you can't share graphical smileys with the Apple users using default configurations, from what I can see. For that reason, I would like support for them so I can have that fun w/ my friends using Apple products.
Textual emoticons are OK, but the problem is that there is no standardized graphical representation of all the variants of a textual emoticon. If you use exactly the same platform as the other person, then that platform's "graphical emoticon picker" will allow you both to see the same thing on both sides, but those vary from platform to platform.
When both I and a friend had a Palm device, it worked great. All the graphical things matched. Same thing with Blackberries. But as soon as you don't all have the same platform, it all breaks down.Data expands to fill all available space. Traffic increases to use all available bandwidth. - 03-26-2013, 11:42 AM #15
+1 for Emoji support! iPhone uses them. Windows Phone uses them. Android is capable of using them. BB needs to allow for a full Unicode 6.0 experience else they will loose customers over this. It is a simple feature, but once you start using emoji in your daily texts between compatible phones, you realize the potential of enhanced communication they allow...which definitely feels lacking going back to text only sms.

In my opinion there is no reason for BlackBerry not to add support for them. Clearly people love using them on other platforms. I think BlackBerry is in a position where it only hurts them to not add support for them. I say this from a consumer user experience perspective, it is just a let down when you see only a black box in texts or twitter and so forth. We need to make new Blackberry users as happy as possible, this just seems like one more little way to help.
