Best app in each category
At first I thought to call the thread as "Build for BlackBerry apps in each category" but when I saw the list of available apps it made me sad to say the least. The reason for this thread is to gather the best apps in each category seeing that BlackBerry removed my point of reference in BlackBerry World (Build for BlackBerry category vanished for now). I do prefer apps with BfB certificate for several reasons (they are updated regularly, they are promised to be updated with each OS update, bug fixed fast, they are fast, they have clean interface, etc.), but any native app will be fine as long as it's stable, fast enough and has clean interface! So far I have a short list of apps I'm using and quite happy with them, but I still miss lots of them, in many categories. Please, help me to fill those gaps
Business:
----------------------
+ Cisco WebEx Meetings - good for business meetings
? time tracking - [for personal use] is there any good time-tracking app that supports projects/tasks, doesn't require any registration on website, able to export data to CSV or/and PDF, able to give total time per project/task for a given day and show the day activity on different tasks/projects. [for business] - app that can save time price per project/task, price of using certain equipment per hour/day/etc, app able to generate PDF invoices
? stocks - any good stock app?
Entertainment:
----------------------
+[BfB] TapyHold - nice scrapbook app (there is a Lite version to try: TapyHold Lite)
Finance:
----------------------
? Expenses manager - I've seen Money Plus but for now it's too basic. What I'm looking for is an app that allows automatic monthly income/spendings, allows different currencies, would be nice to have some sort of spending planner (app allows to add a certain amount per month per category and track it's melting
). Ability to import CSV files is huge plus.
? Shopping list - any good shopping list app that can export spendings to CSV file?
Music and Audio:
----------------------
+[BfB] Nobex - good internet radio/podcasts player. For listening podcasts is not very good as it doesn't automatically sync with subscriptions (automatically download new episodes) and I didn't find a way to enter any arbitrary podcast url to subscribe. So good podcast manager/player still missing for me
Navigation & Travel:
----------------------
+[BfB] Magellan Compass Maps - great navigation app
+[BfB] FancyTran - Translator Built for BlackBerry - very nice and useful app for translations
Photo & Video:
----------------------
+[BfB] Filter Box - nice filters app. What I like about it is that I'm not bound to any social network, and I have freedom to make my photos look as I want them to look (like Lego
) (there is a Demo version to try Filter Box Lite)
+[BfB] Mono Art for BlackBerry 10 - Black and White photography app (there is a Demo version to try Mono Art Demo for BlackBerry 10)
+Paper Camera - very nice artistic photo editing app
+[BfB] PicStory - Instagram like social network + filtering app. I prefer the Filter Box due to freedom that app gives me (set of building blocks and you create photo the way you like it) and independence of any social networks
? Photo editor - any good native photo editor for BB10? I've seen PicShop, looks promising and works good on PlayBook but doesn't work well on Z10 (actually Dev Alpha B). Constantly crashes. Interface is not optimized for Z10 device, tons of unnecessary animations kill the whole experience.
? HDR camera - any hope to have an app for HDR photography or simply to have a more advanced camera app?
+ Exif Scrubber - remove exif info from photo. The funniest part of this app it doesn't support Exif image orientation
Social:
----------------------
+FaceFlow Video Chat - for video chats with non-bb family
Productivity:
---------------------
+Password Keeper - well, it keeps passwords
Utilities:
----------------------
+[BfB] Papillon Converter - nice units converter
+[BfB] Papillon Currency Converter - currency converter
+Currency app - another nice currency converter
+[BfB] SayIt Build for BlackBerry - Siri like assistant but understands me better
Weather:
----------------------
+ The Last Weather App - the weather app when you need to state the obvious. But leaving in The Netherlands stating the obvious is not always useful, because in 10 minutes obvious can turn in something much less obvious
Most weather apps are unreliable, so in The Netherlands people use Buienradar.nl services to track weather in real time with some prognostic capability.
I'll update this post once someone suggests a good app. Please, make your suggestions not only for apps I miss but also if you found an app interesting/useful/funny. ThanksLast edited by bb10_fan; 02-24-2013 at 12:37 PM.

Photo Editing & Sharing: PicStory (BlackBerry World - PicStory)
Utility: Currency app (BlackBerry World - Currency)Currency Rates & Charts for BB10
Native BB10 app | Live exchange rates | Historical charts | Offline mode | Built-in calculator | Active Frame | Auto-update
The only BB10 app that provides historical charts and ActiveFrame auto-update! - 02-24-2013, 10:28 AM

@sh2sg thanks for your input. I like the currency converter. As for PicStory, it seems just like Instagram, you can apply few predefined filters (with vignetting) and then share it somewhere. I cannot save modified pictures to my phone and number of filters is very limited.

Thanks bb10_fan !! I think a list like this was needed.
For Tapyhold, i have planned several updates (when LE Z10 arrives, of course...):
- Evernote integration
- BBM integration
- Q10 works
If you found bugs or you think other features i could add in TapyHold i'll thank you to tell me.
I have an "App Announcement" thread (with screenshots) at Crackberry if someone wants to know more about TapyHold: TapyHold, Built for Blackberry multimedia book
Thanks again bb10_fan !

bb10_fan, nice to read good words about our apps
We've recently updated them both (v1.2.0) which fixed the "design decision" of the BlackBerry for apps that are fixed in portrait orientation (pictures taken from such apps are not oriented properly). The next update will add cropping and manual rotation of photos, and of course more filters and frames
Just in case someone also has Mono Art or Filter Box on their PlayBook, the updates (v1.2.0) were sent at the same time as BlackBerry 10 versions, but it seems that currently BlackBerry 10 apps take all attention

I'd like to suggest an app for Navigation & Travel category:
Fahrplan - a journey planner & railway timetable for many transport lines in Europe and Australia. One great feature I use quite often is add journey to your calendar: here in Germany local transport schedule is available online so if I need to go somewhere I just plan a route in advance, add it to calendar and set a reminder not to miss it. A list of supported providers/countries is available in the description.
This is an Open Source app that was originally developed for Nokia N950 and Nokia N9. Since the day I installed it on my N9 I can't imagine my phone without it. So when BlackBerry 10 was announced with Qt in its core I couldn't resist porting it there. The original author didn't want to bother registering on BlackBerry World so he gave me a permission to publish Fahrplan there. The app is native but uses a port of Symbian Qt Components instead of Cascades for it's UI - this was the fastest option to port it provided that I have quite limited free time recently. I plan to port it to Cascades sometime, but taking into account that my baby will be born pretty soon, I wouldn't be too optimistic about time when it will be done
With best regards,
Oleksii Serdiuk
