It was recently bought to my attention that BlackBerry 10 users are looking for a native app for Fitbit. As Fitbit provides an open API which is constantly being updated, it would make sense to develop a native app for BlackBerry 10.

Please use this thread to share your ideas of what features you would like within the app (obviously restricted to those available in the API: https://wiki.fitbit.com/display/API/Fitbit+API) as well as what you would like the app to look like itself.

It would also be great to see how many BlackBerry 10 users have a Fitbit product and would benefit from a native app

Sleep, Steps, Devices, Health Rate (upon api release) I believe are the major ones.

My big thing is if it's smooth, and clean looking UI, as long as it does the basics than its a sell to me

Once the Health Rate gets added to the API I will add that in too Creating a clean, smooth UI is what I pride in doing with Cascades.

Also, if anyone has any app name and icon ideas then feel free to share those here too

But the public API is only for the web services, and not the device itself. To be able to sync with the device, some reverse engineering of bluetooth communication will be needed

I won't be reverse engineering anything as I imagine it's against Fitbit's Terms and Conditions but I will get in contact with them to see if there's anything I could do

I hope you have luck with that. Some months back I tried via their official channels, but only got response that the device api is not available.

There is a Python library for Fitbit syncing out there already.

I just got one of these for Christmas and would be very keen on a native app. Have you had any luck with developing this app?

Great Christmas present - I got in contact with the Fitbit Support Team last week and they forwarded my email onto the Executive Team at Fitbit; I have just had another email to say that the Executive Team are looking into my request for a Fitbit device.

I'll be starting development on the app soon but if in the meantime Fitbit provide me with a device to test with, then that would speed up the development process

I think a company would not put forth much resources when you can't commit to buying one yourself.

Development will start with or without a Fitbit device as the majority of the app should be pretty straight forward to develop - so a Fitbit device isn't really essential to the development process and would only be used for testing purposes However, I'm willing to purchase my own Fitbit device dependant on the response from the Fitbit Team

Do you live in North America? It's on sale for $79.99 down from $99.99 for boxing day deals. Cheaper if you also use a referral site...

The android app for fitbit works fine.
What benefits would a native app provide over that one?

Does not work good with the Charge, and soooon when the Surge comes along, it would be great to have all the features to work.

It doesn't sync with 10.2.1. I have to turn my hotspot on so that I get wifi on my tablet, then my Z10 syncs off the tablet. It would be a lot nicer if the phone just did it on its own.

    Any update?

I managed to find a work around and am syncing with the latest android version. However, nothing beats native.
