There is already some people working on telegram for blackberry, hopefully this will make them want to work on it more!

My one question is whether they will be allowed to charge for the app after. I don't think so, but those are details to discuss with Telegram I assume.

That's great. I haven't used Telegram before but I will certainly try it out when it is released. Wish more services we want would do this sort of thing.

I think this could be a really nice way to push the development of native apps and improve the BlackBerry ecosystem. Since there is serious money involved, people will get real incentives to get the job done effectively unlike those "home-made" apps like the official facebook and more which provide such horrible experiences. and only its people know what they need, not their government.
