Default Mini Stereo Speaker vs. Music Gateway

It seems to me that the Blackberry Mini Stereo Speaker does everything that the Blackberry Music Gateway does... but has a speaker & battery built in.

Can anyone clarify/comment on what the difference is between these two accessories?

It acts as a speakerphone, includes a microphone and allows connection to two devices at once. http://bizblog.blackberry.com/2013/0...tereo-speaker/

With the gateway it just acts as output and you need separate speakers.

Put another way: is there something the Music Gateway does that the Mini Stereo Speaker doesn't do?

I have the gateway. The advantage in my mind is that you can hook up easily to a full audio system wirelessly an get full 'real' sound. You couldn't use the mini speaker for a dinner party. For example, I ran Songza for a whole party through my big speakers..... my 2cents. of course when travelling taking a speaker and the gateway is more stuff.

You can run it with the 3.5mm jack and cord to a bigger sound system.

    I've got both.

Not a big deal, but the Gateway has NFC and Bluetooth. Plus the cables to hookup to a stereo.

NFC is nice. Just tap your BB and you're good to go.

they are totally different pieces of tech, one is a speaker, one allows transfer of music to other devices.

music gateway is awesome so worth it if you have something to play the music out of, the mini stereo speaker is cool cause you can play your music wherever and whenever and will act as speaker phone and can control the music and volume.

the mini speaker is missing nfc and then it would be so amazing oh and in black would be nice.

+1 here! White is just okay but black would be great!

I do like the sound quality on this little guy though. Quite surprising to me.

Is the 3.5 mm jack on the Bluetooth speaker an input or an output? An out put would allow it to function similarly to the gateway.

    It's an output.

It only comes with a 1/8 to 1/8 cable where as the Gateway comes with a 1/8 to RCA cable. Would have been nice if BB included both cables.

So the output allows it to act like the gateway. Also, I can charge this and use it cordless.

Doesn't the gateway require a power source at all times?

Yup. I use it with this badboy. Pretty sweet setup.

Actually, I could use both and since the Bosch also has a battery. So, if I want to be portable, I'l just use the Mini Speaker's output instead.
