Default Best Apps for the Work Perimeter - z10 - Blackberry 10 with BES 10 (BDS 6.2)

After getting the blackberry work drives setup and deployed in the work perimeter which allows our users to access the internal file server and load excel, pdfs, ppt etc. I'm wondering if there are any other apps i should consider looking into that will benefit from the Internal network connection through the bes server.

So far the Browser is a given, giving access to the intranet websites.
Blackberry Work Drive is a must allow users access to internal file servers.
I tried Remote Desktop for Blackberry Hoping i would be able to access the internal servers without having to setup a VPN connection, but so far no luck.

Anyone have anything else they have tried and found to be useful for users while leveraging the internal network connection through BDS and the work perimeter?

Any others that you all feel are must haves? Also, have you tested the browser against SharePoint and checking out/in documents or managing BES from the work browser and other internal work sites?

We don't currently use sharepoint, but all the other internal sites we have work as expected.

I gotta say I love this ability (long time coming). Adding Apps from the public store is easy.

What I have indexed for the Work store:

    Work drives
    USA Today
    Webex
    Flight Aware
    NY Times
    Lync
    Bridge

I'm looking at a SharePoint solution now. It's really the one thing all mobile Apps struggle with. It's amazing Microsoft hasn't made mobile devices work better with this platform as it's what a lot of companies are trying to do. Just want basic check in / out and edit.

Anyone find anything for PDF annotate? Once I have that it will be one more nail in the coffin why we have to provide iPhones.

What's the point to adding these to the Work Perimeter? besides Work Drives, why do you need USA Today for example on the Work Side?

Look into harmon.ie they have a pretty good solution. Also Sharepoint mobile is not bad at all on the Z10

Yes...experiencing this too. The apps have to be specifically designed to work through the security guidelines of the work perimeter. The app has to make a "device initiated HTTP traffic connection" for this to work. TCP based traffic is not supported and would bypass the BB infrastructure and security. That's why I'm not able to just pick any ol' RDP/ping/etc app on appworld and publish it and expect it to work. I'm still looking for a list. Right now trying to figure out if Splashtop requires the streamer on the other side.

The only way I have been able to RDP to work PCs and servers from a Z10 on BDS is to connect the phone to my work network through a VPN, then the phone can see the hosts on my work network. I wish MDS and the work perimeter were more like a VPN in this respect, seems so limiting to only be able to access internal Web servers and Windows / Samba shared folders.

I would like Whatsapp on my work profile or Bbm but it seems not to work. Does anybody know why?

Yes. Android applications cannot reside on the work perimeter. What's app is an android port.

WhatsApp is native, it doesn't run in the Android player.

I'll try publishing it to the Work perimeter myself and see.

WhatsApp installs in the Work space for me but when run it configures to the point of sending the verification code text to me then sits at 'Please Wait, Initialising' for a few minutes and then exits all by itself, the Active Frame closes. So looks like it's not compatible with the Work space. I don't have any restrictive BDS policies on my phone as it's just a test environment at the moment, access to everything is allowed.

BBM has been arbitrarily categorised by BlackBerry as a 'Personal' app with no option to change that in BDS. This is very silly as there are plenty of ways BBM could be useful in the workplace, with the right controls in place through Policies if you have security concerns. In fact BlackBerry themselves market BBM as a business tool on their business website!

I'd like to see BBM in the Work space with the ability to lock it down to only communicate with BlackBerry phones on your BES10 server and for those phones to be pre-populated in to BBM contacts by BDS so a user's work colleagues are all there to communicate with from day 1. What a missed opportunity.

The Developer for the RDP app just emailed me and let me know they worked out a solution with blackberry to allow the app to RDP through the BDS service and has promoted the app and expects the update to be rolled out in the next couple of days in the app world!!
