Default Unlocked VZW 9550 on bell network?

My friend has verizon wireless unlocked 9550, and she keeps getting "SOS" and it would not connect to the network.
Is there a way to connect to the network?
I'm with Rogers and was able to connect just fine...
If anyone can help that would be great!

Thanks in advance

Bell sells the 9550. Does RIM make a different version of the 9550 for Bell and Verizon?

Bell will not allow cdma devices other than their own on their network. Same device just branded to a different company.

I actually got one working recently. If you have the option, however, I'd recommend getting a different phone. Also, I haven't gotten data to work yet, so I can't say for certain if that's possible.

Anyways, I'm not sure what all is necessary, but here's what I did to get it working:

First I changed the phone number programmed into the phone. This was done with the SPC, which fortunately, for Verizon, is 000000. So, in the dialer, I entered ##000000 and hit the call button. That opened a screen where I had to enter my number in the top two locations. Don't include the country code.

Then I called Bell to get them to activate my phone's id. You can find this id in the phone - status section. At first they told me they couldn't do it because the phone didn't come up in their system. After a little persistence I managed to convince the tech support guy to enter the id despite it not coming up in the system.

At this point I still couldn't make calls. So I went to the blackberry forums and found the operating system files for the 9550 for Bell. After I overwrote the operating system, the 9550 restarted, and I was able to make and receive calls and sms messages.

Like I said, I'm not sure all of that was necessary, but that's how I got it to work.

In the programming menu you can edit the fields at the bottom to Bell's setting (@bell.blackberry.net" and get the data functioning. I have put quite a few Verizon Storms o Bell

The PIN is associated with RIM. Assuming that the PIN is not blocked from RiM, due to being reported as lost or stolen, the PIN will work fine. As stated earlier, you can program the device to enable data on the Bell network.

Cheers,

I tried doing what you said, writing @bell.blackberry.net after my phone number on both location in the programing menu, but still have no data. Top right corner only shows 1x and not 1xEv... everything else works, calls and sms but just can't go online or set up email from hotmail. Only way of going online is wifi..

any other suggestion??

As mentioned above, will only work with Fido and Rogers.
