Canada to china

I'm going to Beijing then Hong Kong for business. I have a 9550. I'm with mts which runs CDMA.
I will be overseas for 1 month, can I just purchase a SIM card? All I really need is e-mail, texting, and messenger.

In Beijing you will be out of luck as mainland China has no BIS services currently as the gov't won't allow it. If you are looking to buy a SIM card unlock the phone first and as far as I know Hong Kong does have carriers offering BIS services but not sure if its available for a prepaid.
