Default Bell Sim Card

I have a Storm1 on Bell.

It came with a SIM card, that inserted and haven't touched since day 1.

Just curious, I have now removed the SIM card and rebooted the phone. Everything still seems to be working fine. I have data, and can make voice calls... The screen shows I have 1XEV connection.

So my question is, what is the SIM card for? Can I continue to use my phone without it? Will it work in other phones?

TIA!

Your sim card is for international roaming, your device is a CDMA device, you can keep on rocking without your sim in.

Like Fubaz said, the sim card is only used for international roaming, so at home you can still work without the SIM card. Unfortunately, the SIM card won't work in other phones as the phone is still registered CDMA, so the SIM is registered for roaming instead of the main line.

Unfortunately you have to buy a new Bell sim card. There is still a difference between the International Roaming Card that comes with the Storms and tour's, and the HSPA Sim Cards. If you want to do it at home you can always just pop in to a Bell world or Best Buy/Future Shop and just buy the card and you should be able to swtich it yourself online. The sim cards are only 7 bucks at Future Shop.
