| | Bell HSPA and Rogers
I need some assistance if possible. I got into it today with a Rogers rep and one of my buddies over Bells HSPA. He was looking at a Rogers phone and the Rogers rep was explaining to him that all of Bells HSPA network here in Edmonton was running off of Rogers towers. I of course with the understanding that Bell wasn't using thier towers explained to him and my friend that HSPA is a totally different freq therefore couldn't. The Rogers rep was saying Bell has no HSPA towers in the Edmonton area and that was why they were using some of Rogers towers.
From what I have read this is totally untrue and Bell has HSPA towers of tier own up, am I correct and if I am how do I show this guy he is giving false information. I am sure I could make a phone call to Rogers but I don't like those guys to begin with and would rather slap something down on his desk showing him he is wrong.

There is no where on the coverage part of the Bell Website that states that Bell is piggy backing rogers' HSPA Network. I am sure however that they are not. They spent a lot of money getting the HSPA upgraded onto most towers across canada. And bell wouldnt spend billions of dollars upgrading this system just to jump on Canada's Smallest 3G coverage carrier :P. I'd direct your friend to Coverage and Travel- bell.ca and The New Bell Network.

Bell and Rogers are competitors, not friends. While there are roaming agreements (if company A drops a signal, they will allow company B to pick up the signal...) I highly doubt in a large metro area (Edmonton for example) that Bell would just decide NOT to put up towers and let Rogers do it. There are a lot of people in Edmonton, and I'm assuming afew of those are Bell customers. I'm sure they (Bells) would do whatever they could to make sure that their customers have a strong reliable signal

I agree with both of you but I see no evidence showing that Bell has thier own towers, believe me I want to show both of them that Bell has thier own towers but my word just isn't going to cut it in this case.

Look at the trade agreements between Telus and Bell. If you look at Telus' / Bells HSPA+ / HSPA coverage map, they're identical.
Rogers HSPA coverage is different (not massively, but enough to notice), this is because Telus and Bell use the same CDMA and HSPA+ / HSPA Towers. Telus builds them in all major cities, Bell connects them to the smaller cities outside the major metro's. Bell / Telus (Bellus) has their own towers, but Bell doesn't have it's 'own' towers. They share with Telus. Rogers is the only major company with its own towers that only they use. And I guess Sasktel.

defending bell?
you are the FIRST person ive ever met with good things to say about that dirtbag, slimy, POS company...
I would not, for 5$ a month, switch over from rogers to bell... not that rogers is perfect, but bell has screwed me and countless of associates out of money and service...
oh, and bravo to rogers for having reps IN CANADA...

Soulfly3, this has nothing to do with defending Bell or Rogers, this has to do with a Rogers Costumer Representative who might be providing false information to potential clients and Excoelis wants to ensure the right information is given.
I'm researching but my understanding is that Bell and Telus share their own towers and Rogers has its own.

oh, and bravo to rogers for having reps IN CANADA... | To be fair, Bell doesn't close your account out, charge you a 400 ETF, and send your account to Collections after missing ONE MONTH of payment on your bill. Rogers may have better call reps, but as a company, they're even worse. I'd sooner sign 10 lines on Bell (and I hate them just as much) than sign pay-as-you-go on Rogers.

I would find it quite odd and very implausible that Rogers would let Bell clients on their towers when Rogers clients can't go on Bell towers. It would surprise me quite a bit that Rogers would really be that generous, because I know that here, even if we have HSPA, Rogers clients still have no signal in the area, even with an HSPA phone, such as the iPhone.

He won't be able to.

Or, take a look at this. A few islands of Rogers red, in a vast sea of Bell blue. Notice that Edmonton is served by Bell, with rogers coverage area overlayed on top. MobileSyrup.com - Canadian Mobile Phone News & Reviews - Cell phones and Accessories

Here is the most definitive map showing cell towers by service provider. It's a mash-up of google with individual towers shown, along with information about the bands being supported. Great site if you want to locate specific towers close to where you live. Canadian Cellular Towers Map | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
