Default Bbm

Hi everyone,

I am a new user of a Blackberry. I am in Vancouver, BC and if I was to go across the border, and BBM someone from there (who is also a Canadian customer) does that cost roaming $$$ or is it free as well?
Thanks!

kloonger

BBM will be "free" (or included) wherever your data service plan covers you.

Most likely if you have a Canadian plan, you probably aren't covered if you "go across the border" (which I'm assuming means "into the United States").

It doesn't matter where the other person is located. It matters where YOU are located.

You would be roaming most likely and would incur roaming charges which can be quite high depending upon the carrier.

It will cost you a total of $6/MB that you use in the US in addition to your current Bell data plan.

BBM doesn't use much data at all so depending on how much you message your contacts and how long you are in the states then it may not cost you alot. However if you have apps that update in the background and also emails coming to your Blackberry then you are looking at those adding to your data usage in the States as well, unless you delete your email accounts and switch off the updates until you return to Canada

does anyone know exactly how much a single bbm message will cost when roaming? 1 cent? 10cents? I'm trying to compare just bbm'ing in the states vs getting the US data add-on which is 1$/mb i think.

BBM takes up very little data. Not exactly sure how much data it uses per message but you gotta also consider BBM 5.0 does check and update friends status and loads the profile pictures as well. It all varies depending on your message size and other factors as well.

Upto you to decide what you want to do but remember it might be better to add a data add-on rather be hit by $6/MB roaming. As well if you have your emails hooked up then you may want to consider deleting those emails via your BIS prior to leaving and re-add them once you return
