Will bell ever release 5.0 for the tour?

With Telus releasing it, I assumed we'd hear from Bell any day.

I am sort of bored waiting on today's football game... might just load the release used by other carriers.

Anyone have any more info on this? I think it ridiculous how every carrier but Bell has OS 5 for the tour.

Well, they don't sell it anymore, so support is liable to go in the crapper.

I'm getting kind of fed up with Bell taking so long on this one. I think I should be able to get better reception with my Tour than I am in a few places around the city. Bell's own support pages say it can be improved with a software update. Great idea, except that they haven't updated the software since Oct. Of last year.

I've put up with a finicky trackball because of a goofy repair and return policy that I think will make me more unhappy than the trackball. Besides, the rest of the phone is fine. Dropping the Tour so soon after it was introduced, along with this lack of support for the product has left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I may be looking for a new carrier to use when my contract is up. I realize that carriers cannot support phones forever, but if I commit to a 3 year contract I don't think it's too much to expect 3 years of decent support.

End of my rant.

There is no difference between the Bell version and other carrier versions. Read the forums on how to load the OS and you won't have issues 95% of the time. Don't stress about it. It is easy stuff. All the best!

Verizon doesn't have an official 5.0 either.

Which 5.0 is recommended?

I am thinking of doing the Verizon version (this coming week), as long as it's taken I assume they've tested that baby good.

Well I loaded Telus's release of 5 (674) and it works great. No problems installing even the applications I was kind of skeptical wouldn't work like visual voice mail all work just like before. I guess in the end its likely the way to go as I don't see Bell coming out with 5 as they discontinued the Tour. It runs great and I wold recommend no one to wait around for Bell to release it.

My employer issued me my phone, so I'm a little reluctant to mess with another carrier's OS5.....unless any suggestions if the phone messes up or every needs to be sent back to Bell. Hmm tempting. Need to cover my tracks.

Does OS5 have any effect on the Tour trackball issues or is that strictly a mechanical issue? I've heard both, so not sure.

Thanks for any advise.
