Just came across this interesting article on Google News today.
If microsoft wanted to dominate the Enterprise space, an acquisition like this would make sense.
Though there is SOME overlap, most of their offerings are complementary to each other and can work in the same ecosystem.

What if Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Acquired BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY)?

If someone was going to buy blackberry ( which is a thought of the past now anyway) I would be most happy if it was Microsoft. We could have a blackberry 10/windows 8.1 hybrid (at least I hope that would happen) and seamless integration with windows on tablets, computers the surface and compatibility with most things a pc was compatible with . That is true mobile computing if you ask me.

Well..if my aunt had ballz she's be my uncle....but, let's not confuse reality. BlackBerry has a distinct "leg" in the game. Security. protection of personal data...yes, protection of your personal data, and end to end "guaranteed" information integrity. IOS? Android? Bhahha....nuff said

I still think Amazon should've bought Blackberry.

    1. Amazon wants in the mobile game.
    2. Free press. Just Advertise on Amazon front page.
    3. Better reach to consumer space.

No this should not happen. Microsoft doesn't innovate. They will only try to make money out of the things they do.

LOL. just kidding. i want blackberry to stand on its own. Microsoft/Google/Apple/Lenovo etc, doesn't matter, most of them are evil. Blackberry has the strongest grip on security, and if they sell out, they'll lose it. Better die than giving up.

Microsoft are too busy sinking the Nokia brand name to bother with BlackBerry and they had the opportunity to buy the company for peanuts towards the end of last year anyway.

    A bit like BlackBerry then...

The fact remains that all the big players in the technology industry had an opportunity served up on a silver plate to acquire BlackBerry last year and the silence was deafening. It couldn't even secure an aquisition by a second string financial group.

All highly indicative of the value the industry places on BlackBerry.

Microsoft has no interest in Blackberry at these prices. It did not want to buy Blackberry at $9.

Also, Blackberry's/BES' trend in enterprise is not upward. MDM providers like Good are rising fast and, with proper financial backing and the thumbs up from a big player like Microsoft or Apple, could easily dominate MDM. These MDM solutions work great for iPhone and Android.

Blackberry's MDM competitors also happen to be a fraction of Blackberry's price. All in all, with just BES alone, Blackberry would be worth <$6 per share atm and that is still assuming that the buyer considers BES a lot better than the competition.

    What, a bit like BlackBerry?

Nokia was still #1 in phones and #1 in smartphones when it decided to trash their roadmap in favour of Microsoft.

BlackBerry was losing a lot of market share, but they persevered with BB10, and now this will pay off.

Look at Samsung, smartphone sales last quarter down 25% because of Chinese Android brands.
