    Nope, I've made this mistake before, only by a few cents. Your broker will take your $20 and turn around and buy the shares on the market for $14.50 in the blink of an eye, pocketing the difference. You should see a comment by your trade "we acted as principle" if this happens.

    With my broker my limit order would immediately become a market order and shares would be purchased at the market rate.
