And that shows or proves what, exactly?
    Nothing?

Unless maybe you're short on RIMM, which I'm not.

I didn't short it either. I have this thing about hoping that a stock will go down. Kind of like betting Don't in Craps. But in this case it would have been the correct call.

In any event, stock is up nicely the last two days...

It would be less frustrating and painful.

    Wow.

^^Make a simple observation about how the RIMM stock reacts approaching a weekend and suddenly I'm a troll?

    [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxpl8Gvw8_g[/YT]

It's not my fault that a simplistic analysis of my comment was made. You can't just look at the static closing values, you have to actually look at the trendline for that day.

I never said that the stock 'closes' higher on a Friday. That was AG's misinterpretation. I specifically said it has a tendency to 'climb' on a Friday before the market closes. It can also drop after said climb.

It has nothing to do with anything in the media or RIM press releases. But I've also made the comment a number of times on a Friday afternoon when it's been occurring and this is the first time someone has bothered to kick up such a stink.

But to get into specifics, going back from today.

    Sept 7 - Yes
    Aug 31 - Yes
    Aug 24 - No
    Aug 17 - Yes
    Aug 10 - Yes
    Aug 3 - No
    July 27 - Yes

And thats as far back as Google Finance will let me see without smoothing the trendline and obscuring the relevant data. But that's still a climb on 6 out of the last 8 Fridays.

What I observed is that - so far - stock has been under pressure until it went under book value. For weeks now it is yo-yo between 7.x and 6.x . I believe this is what specialists may call a "resistance" (if not, please explain; don't shoot). I personally set this resistance point - as a reference for me - to $7 (decimals have no sense for a 150 shares holder).
Bad news or market recommendation (short/sell): stock down quarter a point.
Good news (P.W, Vierzon) : stock up half a point. (whitch makes intraday value somehow big : abt 7% ?).

I believe good news (in particular carriers support) will be numerous for the months to come. Hopefully (Sept. 27) the bad ones won't be legion.

Disclaimer : I'm no specialist and have no analysis tools to convert my perception into facts.

Superfly, the slight fluctuations you are seeing are simple oscillations around its mean. Read up on Brownian motion and it's link to stock markets. Basically the stock of a volatile company company is hardly ever stable and tends to go up and down around a mean point. And at each extreme it snaps towards the mean but in the process tends to go past the mean on the other side. Kind of like a pendulum. You can keep finding out reasons like press announcements of Verizon etc, but that does not effect day to day price as nothing fundamentally has changed for RIM from ten days ago.
Inspite of verizon's announcement the numbers for RIM would remain the same. Any fundamental change would occur only after the earnings call.

Research In Motion: Good Speculation Play With Limited Risk - Seeking Alpha

For "beginners" like me, I found this article (please read also the very accurate comment of slickvguy bellow) very interesting. In particular, the "what is speculation ?" part. Agreed most, especially when mixed with slickvguy. Rare agreement of what's in Seeking Alpha !

By default higher risks always lead to higher returns. Also, all investments involve some degree of speculation. The less you know about any situation, the higher the degree of speculation.
Those engaging in speculative activities know that there is a chance they might lose their entire investment. Also, those involved in speculative activities need to have the experience in doing so. Speculation to some degree is an art, for many pieces of the puzzle are unknown and thus one cannot make an educated investment decision, but only an educated investment guess.
However you define speculation, one thing is for sure: when you speculate you expect a big return if you are correct. One does not speculate in order to make average returns. When one speculates he expects to make above average returns if not extraordinary returns.

Ok, the ip5 launch is done. What effect on the stock ? None.

Personal view : Looks like investors believe RIM future is not about OTHERS, but its capacity to seduce with BB10 next year. This is quite good news.

How do you make that leap in logic?

RIMM will tank at this point if either (i) BlackBerry 10 is delayed beyond 1Q2013, or (ii) an investor holding enough shares (5%+) of RIM and dumps them causing a chain-reaction. I am surprised a cadre of major investors sitting on the board have not demanded RIM be taken private to allow it the necessary time to refocus and stop playing wack-a-mole. With the global workforce reduced by over 10000 employees during the past 12 months there are significant problems plaguing the company and most of them are at the management level.

Microsoft's stock was stagnant (around $25) for many years. Only in the past 6 months has it made it out of the $25-27 range. Microsoft is around $30 now.

    RIM isn't standing out.

where does this number come from ?
I'm sticked to 3K (yet to be "finished"), big enough.

Jaguar and Albinoni, with that 5% has done nothing but bad press and self promotion (not sure it's a good one).

This year, RIM's stock seemed to be on a constant state of decline up until July.

    07/06/2012 - ^ @ $8.10
    07/20/2012 - V @ $6.77
    07/27/2012 - ^ @ $7.37
    08/02/2012 - V @ $6.95
    08/10/2012 - ^ @ $8.29
    09/05/2012 - V @ $6.52
    09/14/2012 - ^ @ $7.56

I wish I would have captured volumes with this, but alas, I didn't.

Anyway, over the last three months, the stock seems to haved halted the decline (not to say that it couldn't start to decline again with Q3 earnings report.

Like I said previously, it doesn't seem likely that RIM will see their stock price raise for at least a year. Q2 2013 will tell RIM's story. Any purchasing of stock before then is a gamble.

Frankly I dont see how buying stock thats already out there helps RIM. That stock is not helping them gain any money. If you want to support them I say best thing to do is buy yourself a new BlackBerry.

I think it will bottom out in the $6-$6.25 range after the call.

The only good news next week will be that BB 10 is still on schedule; the rest will be as expected - terrible.
