Default Anyway around "Unsupported Android Phone" error message?

Is there anyway to get an app to work that loads up perfectly well until it gets an unsupported device error message? I have run into this a few times and would love to know if there is a work around.

It has to do with the Andorid Runtime Version on BB10 which is 2.3.3. Alot of times you can find the apk file od XDA without device check and convert that into a bar.

    Hope that helps.

So it's possible to get rid of the device check in the apk?

    I looked to no avail...

I know how to decompile and recompile. I just don't know Android development at all and don't know what to look for.

Thanks, but that only works for Android phones. I'm looking for a way to edit the apk, not the phone.

Yeah, you're not editing the build.prop file inside the AP...

What apps are you getting the unsupported android device message from? I might be able to give you a few pointers...

It's the Optimum app for Cablevision. Its the only app that I cannot get working that I am having trouble living without...

It loads fine, than does a device check and says I'm using an unsupported device.

HaTaX, if you solve this for me, I will....well there's probably nothing I could do, but I could try....

I'm willing to give it a shot, but I loaded up this apk : https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...um.rdvr.mobile (Version 1.3 it looks like) and I was able to move around the app just fine as a "guest" to see what features were available. Maybe I got the wrong app or maybe it requires a valid login, not sure.

Let me know if this is the app you're trying to get working, and if it only starts to misbehave when you log in. If so, I might need credentials to be able to fix this for you...

This is actually the app I mean.

Thanks so much for the effort! I know others will like this app.

Well, not sure if it actually works, but it at least tries to login now. I'll post a link for you to grab and sign.

Here's a download link to the modified APK : https://mega.co.nz/#!DVYGyIaI!dx6fUl...eCLae70Hz9MZZQ

Remember, this must be debug signed and loaded using xsacha's 'new' method!

Let me know if it logs in and if you hit any other error messages, there's no guarantee that this will work at all as I could only test to the login screen. But at least you can try now...

I decompiled it and edited the functions that call for the device check to bypass them. Android decompiling / recompiling requires working with smali code, it's basically dalvik byte code. If you want to read a little about the process and opcodes : Dalvik opcodes & Understanding the Dalvik bytecode with the Dedexer tool

Not a problem! Hopefully they're only checking that at the pages I changed (where I saw the check) and it will function correctly when you get logged in...

Also, looks like they had the app shut down if you tried to use an external display. Not sure how well it would work or even if the Android side knows when HDMI is connected, but that little check is also gone from this version.

Looking forward to your test results later tonight.

So, it allowed me to get further into the app, but after I logged in and accepted the terms, another device check was performed. I PMd you a temporary login for Optimum so you can test the app as you go if you still want to work on it.

Thanks again so much for this!

The login was helpful, give it a shot now and check that everything is working as expected. I couldn't watch any shows but that could be due to not being on the 'home network', would make sense at least.

Didn't want to start changing channels on your TV either so I figured it's best for you to kick it around now and see if everything works as it should...

    https://mega.co.nz/#!KBJBFShJ!EFoYf0...0oF7iU5A-jzCPY

This time I took a different route, anytime the device or output is checked it will return the needed value to continue on. That doesn't mean that everything will work, just that you won't see that error message anymore.

Working much better! Unable to watch live TV, but that seems to be a Cablevision error that I need to do more research about. I do have access to some very important features though. I can't thank you enough for all your help! You are awesome!!
