Default Android GSF iD (JB 4.2.2) - Guide

This guide will show you how to get an Android GSF iD which is based on Jelly Bean 4.2.2

The purpose of this is so that you can download the latest app apk's that require the Android OS to be higher than Gingerbread 2.3.3 which is currently used by Bluestacks or apps you couldn't download due to the device shown by Bluestacks being 'Incompatible'.

Using Google Maps as an example, a Device iD used by Bluestacks will only let you download v6.14.3 for Google Maps which is the latest for Gingerbread 2.3.3 used by Bluestacks, However with this guide you will be able to obtain and use a GSF iD which will let you download Google Maps v7.0.2 which requires Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.1 or newer. Also i had issues with several apps where i couldn't find them via a search on APK Leecher or couldn't download the apk's via APK Downloader because the device shown by Bluestacks was 'Incompatible'.

This guide is intended for use with APK Downloader and/or APK Leecher so you can download your own apk's direct from the Google Play Store.

Step 1 - Go to this website Genymotion and sign up, Once you have done that click 'Download Genymotion' at the top right of the page.

Genymotion is a complete set of tools that provides a virtual environment for Android. It can be very useful for developers, testers, salesman or even gamers. It is available for most operating systems: Windows, Linux and MacOS X. It is as simple to install as powerful to use.

Step 2 - Choose and download the platform you would like to install Genymotion on.

    - For Windows 32/64 users 'Oracle VirtualBox' is part of the download of Genymotion, as stated on the download page.

    - For other platforms 'Oracle VirtualBox' will need to downloaded and installed separately from here https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Note: Please read the 'Requirements' Section in the User Guide here https://cloud.genymotion.com/page/doc/ to insure your system has the requirements needed to run Genymotion.

Step 3 - Run through the install, steps for each platform can be found here https://cloud.genymotion.com/page/doc/ under the 'Installation' Section.

Step 4 - Startup Genymotion and then click add and select a virtual device from the list.

Note: My advice is do not select devices that are 4.3 with API 18, because it will then be possible for you to get APK's for apps that support 'only' Android 4.3 which will not work on Blackberry 10 devices, because as you know our run-time is 4.2.2 so i recommend you select devices that are 4.2.2 with API 17

Step 5 - Once you have selected a virtual device and the setup of the device is finished go to this link [GUIDE] Genymotion | Installing ARM Translation and GApps[Updated Nov.16] - xda-developers and follow the instruction to install the ARM Translation and also Google API's to add Google services to your virtual device so you can access the Google Play Store etc

Note: Please have a read of that thread if you run into any issues while following the instructions.

Step 6 - Once you have finished step 5 if you haven't already added your Google account when you was following step 5 then at the homescreen follow these steps to add your Google Account...

    1. Click 'Menu'
    Android GSF iD (JB 4.2.2) - Guide-menu.png
    2. Then 'System Settings'
    3. Scroll down to 'Accounts' and Click '+ Add Account'
    4. Then click 'Google' and add your Google account

This will associate the virtual android device with your google account so that you can access the Google Play Store and install apps.

    http://oi39.tinypic.com/w9ifch.jpg

Step 6 - Once you have your Google Account Setup, follow these steps.
    1. Click on the 'Apps' button
    Android GSF iD (JB 4.2.2) - Guide-apps.png

    2. then find/click 'Google Play Store', and at the top search for 'Device ID' and Click the 2nd One down (should look like below) and Install it.
    Android GSF iD (JB 4.2.2) - Guide-device-id.png

    3. Then head back to the Homescreen where you should see the Device ID app, Open it and you should now see 2 iDs The 1st one is the 'GSF ID Key' and the 2nd is your 'Android Device ID' we will be using the GSF iD.
    Android GSF iD (JB 4.2.2) - Guide-device-id-app.jpg

Step 7 - Using your GSF ID

You can use GSF iD with APK Downloader (Google Chrome Extension) which you can find here with instruction on how to setup and use. APK Downloader [Latest] Download Directly | Chrome Extension v2 (Evozi Official)

    and/or

You can also use the GSF iD with APK Leecher which can be found here with instructions on how to setup and use. [TOOL] Real APK Leecher v1.3.6 - Always get your apk up-to-date easily - xda-developers

I think this is my 1st guide so i hope you can all understand each step, It should all be pretty straight forward!

    Testing it now..

Apps do work better for example , google maps you can actually go to the settings page whereas it used to crash.

Instagram is smoother but keyboard is still messed up on the Q10 , havent tested the z10 yet.

    Skype is smoother as well

Vine works but havent logged in

    Wechat 4.5.1 does not work.

As bluetroll suggested try APK Leecher, I myself have both setup from when I used the Bluestacks Device iD, with that iD I sometimes was able to get an APK from one but not the other, but generally for me APK Leecher was the better method which I used more often plus with APK Leecher you can check for updates.

I did find with APK Downloader and previous versions it would randomly stop working from time to time and I'd have to logout and set it up again to get it to work, nevertheless APK Downloader is still useful when it works plus some users might prefer it.

I think I might have a 3rd way to get APK's direct from Google Play, I'll test to see if it will work!

You have to take into consideration that not every app is 4.2.2 ready or even avail for it.

    Netflix is working.

Using this method will not restrict/stop you from downloading APK's that require ICS 4.0.1 or lower if the app doesn't require/isn't ready for 4.2.2, this method just means that in the event that an app ever gets updated so it does require 4.2.2 you will be able to download the APK, which isn't possible with Bluestacks.

Neither program is working for me.

I've used the Chrome extension before - it only seemed to work about half the time. Now that I've changed my device ID - i get an error every time (error code 400).

The APK Leecher does not connect... don't really understand why.

Did you try the Device ID or the GSF iD?

The device ID. I tried two different ones too - running genymotion just like it said in the OP.

Yes this is correct, I tried the Device iD and both ways to download APK's stopped working which is odd as I thought that iD would work also.

I'll have to update the steps to eliminate confusion.

I've updated the guide to reflect that the GSF iD has to be used, As it appears the Device iD doesn't work. My apologies i should have tested this before.

@Arkosakti was you able to get APK's downloaded via the APK Leecher? (You could also try APK downloader again if you like)

@jkuyp Was you able to get it to work with the GSF iD, instead of Device iD?

    Great work Dealz417!

    This method works really well.

APK downloader in chrome did not work for me. Had to use Real APK Leecher.

Is it just me or is the Leecher interface a bit poor and it doesn't find all the apps that are in the Google store?
So for example if I search for whatsapp I get like 30 add-on suggestions but no link to the actual whatsapp programme.

Not that I don't have whatsapp on my Z10, just using this as an example.

    Thanks!

    APK Downloader should also work!

Yes I also have issues with APK Leecher not finding apps I search for, however this has greatly improved since using an iD based off JB 4.4.2 (GenyMontion) vs GB 2.3.3 from BlueStacks which I used before.

There are still restrictions that can prevent apps from showing it is not just down to the OS version, There is also restrictions like Network carrier, Region, Device model etc

Network carrier and Region can be changed within the settings for both APK Leecher and Downloader.
