Default Warranty/Insurance question.

Hi everyone,

I had a question about the AT&T warranty and insurance. I read the other posts regarding this matter but I don't think it completely answered the questions I had so please bear with me if you think its a repeated post.

I recently changed the housing on my phone after dropping it numerous times resulting in some bad scratches/dings. I found out later that removing the white sticker would void the one-year warranty that comes with the device. And of course, I did not put the sticker back on when I replaced my housing.

Also recently, I have talked with AT&T customer care multiple times because of problems I have been having with dropped calls within my apt. They said that after the different steps of troubleshooting and exchanging my SIM card, if the problems persist they will have to replace my phone under the warranty (which is until Dec/10).

My question is, since I removed the sticker and my warranty is void, will they refuse to replace the device, assuming that I will need a replacement before Dec when my warranty runs out? Or will they take care of me under the insurance and make me cough up $150?

Thanks everyone, and sorry if this was a repeat post!

Yes, they'll check for that and deny the warranty. If done over the phone, you'll be charged the full price of the phone on your bill.

Insurance covers lost/stolen/damaged devices. From what you're describing, its none of those. The dropped calls issue may very well be caused by the changed housing.

Dropped calls indoors are a signal attenuation issue that is neither the fault of AT&T or RIM. It is not a warranty issue, as no one is insane enough to guarantee service inside a house that may as well be a Faraday cage.

Try disabling 3G while at home. The whole point of a cellular phone is to be reachable when you're outdoors.
