| | Visual Voice Mail on the Torch.
I was reading on the AT&T website that using visual voice mail uses your data plan. I just wanted to make sure this is true before I start using it so I don't add an extra charge to my bill.
Also, when I was buying the phone, the associate in the store said something about how it doesn't have visual voice mail. Obviously, this is not the case as there is an icon for it on the phone. When I go to it, it says "Visual Voice Mail is not set up. Have you added Visual Voice Mail to your wireless account?" which makes me think it DOES incur a fee. Anyway, if anyone could clear this up for me, I would be most appreciative. :)

Nope. visual voicemail is free..
you just need to set it up to work..
and you do that by calling to your voicemail to set it up.
And NO it doesn't take up your data plan nor your voice call plan.

Every time I try to call, it asks for my mailbox number. Do you know where I can get my mailbox number? I tried my phone number, and that didn't work. :P

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | all you need to press is the number 1..
it's a speed dial that will directly connect you to your voicemail.
your mailbox number by the way is your mobile number.
use you phone to call.
just press 1 long enough and it will call the mailbox.

I tried my phone number, and that did not work. It says, "enter your mailbox number specified by your system administrator." I've tried the 10 digit phone number, and that is not correct. I guess I'm doing something wrong. :/

hold down number 1 until you connect to your voicemail.
or dial 611
this may help.. Voicemail - Wireless from AT&T

I'm using my Torch. When I call it, it gives me the option to access my mailbox or leave a voicemail for someone, so I pick access my mailbox. Then it asks for my mailbox number, which is not my phone number, apparently. When I put in my phone number, it says it can't find a mailbox for that number, and to provide the number given by my system manager.
I guess I should just go to AT&T and ask them what my mailbox number is. :/

Yeah I never could get an answer that helped me setup the visual voicemail app properly. So I use 1 to check my messages but I would've liked to actually see them like on my old iphone. Where I could see the name of the person who left it and there number. Keep in mind I don't need a transcript of the message just the basic name, number, and time would be nice.

Update I called the rep and he fixed it. Here's the deal my account was'nt provisioned properly for visual voicemail so that was my problem but Yeaa Baby he provisioned it asked me to turn off phone and reboot it. That worked for it reset my voicemail options and I reset password and Bam now my visual voicemail is setup and complete. My advice is to call 'em and keep asking for tech support until you reach the right tech person. My torch is new so they still had to add a few options for me but sucess it paid off.

I'm also having a problem getting my Visual Voice Mail setup on my 9300.
I don't seem to be able to "add it to my account" though att.com/mywireless like it says I can. So then when I dial Voicemail like it says to in the app, I get nothing. So I'm kind of stumped. I'll probably head in to my local store to ask them to help me set it up (as it could be a problem like you were having, Saltybrine).
btw, I'm on the factory installed 5.0.0.955

Yeah, even though that was what the menu said, I had to go to the store to get it set up. I think it had something to do with the fact I had an iPhone prior to the Torch, meaning conflicting visual voice mailboxes. The associate had to spend about 20 minutes on my phone to fix it, so make sure you're not in the red, battery-wise. :P

It takes me about 20 minutes to drive there, so I'll have it on my car charger!
I think it may be because I'm the first on our plan (of 4 phones) to have a phone capable of getting it and it's a phone that doesn't even show up as a phone I can have on myWireless. Ha. I'm guessing they'll get it working.

Wait...hold on. Visual Voicemail is free with my account? I never tried it after being asked if it was added to my account in the fear of a higher bill too.

Yeah, right after reading this I looked into it. I saw it on my features with AT&T's site, but couldn't set it up without getting an error. Come to find out it's because when I got my new Torch I technically didn't activate it...only swapped my SIM into it. So my IMEI number with AT&T didn't match my phone. A call to customer care straightened it all out.
Of course I've not had any voicemail yet to get to play around with it.
