Default Can I use an old SIM card for prepaid service?

I have an old phone, I have an old 3G SIM card, is it possible to just use the phone and sim card then just get a prepaid plan? I just want texting on it, the unlimited $20 dollar texting plan.

Sort of, and maybe.

Your old SIM has most likely been deactivated. You may be able to recover your contacts from it, but it won't make or receive calls.

It's possible to use SOME postpaid phones on prepaid service, but the iPhones and some BlackBerry phones don't play nice. Basically, you buy a cheap GoPhone, activate it, and then.. well, I forget. I'm more familiar with using a GoPhone SIM in a regular AT&T phone (SIM has to be unlocked by customer care, but you get a one-time shot of 150 bonus minutes).

But I digress. I'd recommend calling prepaid customer care to inquire about this before buying anything.

If you just want text, you can use really whatever device you please. The iPhone isnt cleared for prepaid, thats it. Ive seen some sparce reports of Blackberries hiccuping, but nothing major. Use what you want on prepaid.
