That's a loaded question, lots have done it with no problems and then there was some that had some minor bugs, honestly its pretty easy fix if something isn't quite right.

    hi naorazzia,
I've been updating my Z30 today and noticed no particular problem.
STILL : it is always recomended to perform a backup in case something goes wrong.
I'd suggest you have this ability (also be sure your SD card isn't encrypted) before you proceed.

P.S: withdrawal, I guess I'll take the unanswered list bottom up lol

Incidentally, I saw this post earlier before either of you had replied, but I knew you'd both be around to answer it soon enough, if JayDee didn't beat us all too it.

    Good luck OP

You will have to do the OTA update its non destructive, but it's always suggested to do a back up just incase.

So it's totally up to you.

Use a backup app from BlackBerry World, like Ultimate Backup.

You can upload files to box or dropbox from your phone, then get a free contact import/export app, and do a fresh install.

A backup isn't just the images you carry around. It's a full copy of your device, so in case something goes bad, you can revert to that copy.

Not a single app on BBWorld will do that.

OP, there are some though that can deal with your contact list and general PIM info. If you don't have a computer, consider either:

    • Buying the best backup app you can;
    • Manually moving your contacts to a cloud based service.

This way, if things go bad and you need to wipe to clear the bugs, you don't lose everything.

And on bugs. wiping the device will clean them out if you have any after the update. It's not the OS that's bad, it's just some people had problems making stuff they had on he phone play along with the new OS, causing all sorts of issues.

The least you can do is move everything to your memory card.
Then you can try to get a free backup app to secure your contacts.
It'll come down to your app data after that.

While the update hasn't bricked many phones, people have chosen to do a fresh install because of bad battery life or high CPU usage. The percentage is small, but it's there.

    Your call.

Hi Superfly_FR ... what impact does an encrypted SD card have?

The reason I ask is that mine is encrypted by default (i.e. i'm on employer BES and it requires SD encryption). I'm planning on wiping my device shortly in order to upgrade my OS to 10.3.1 and wondering if my SD will cause an issue.

Once you upgrade your OS a new encryption key is created. And the data stored on your SD will still have the old encryption key associated with it, and will not be able to be accessed by your device.

Oh ok thanks ...that is fine. I've already copied the files on it through explorer to my hard drive. I was just wondering if it was going to cause an issue when trying to load the new OS. If it slows down the security wipe, I will format it first.

You just need to un-encrypt your SD card before doing the upgrade and then re-encrypt it once you're done. Saving the encrypted files to your PC doesn't do anything. Both the device and the SD card need to have the same encryption keys when all is said and done.

So how do you decrypt the SD card? If I go into settings>encryption, everything is greyed out. I can't turn off the encryption.

Since you're on your employers BES server, I doubt you can. IT policy applied to your device is probably meant to prevent that.
