My Passport is supposed to arrive Friday and I have a contract with verizon (didn't know about the CDMA problem) and hate ATT. Does anyone know whether I can switch to T-mobile?

(Why aren't the carriers required to assure interoperability unless a device would harm their systems?)

To answer your main question: yes. The Passport will work just fine on TMO's network. If you're planning to switch to TMO, don't forget that they have a "we pay your ETF" promotion going on, which requires a phone trade-in (can be any Verizon phone, so you can sell your last one on the open market if you think you'll get a good price for it.)

To answer your second question, which I think you're asking from a (frustrated, understandably so) Verizon customer's POV: Verizon's network is special. They get to dictate which phones they accept on their CDMA network. You don't have this problem on GSM carriers such as TMO and AT&T.
