I lost or had my phone stolen a little over 2 years ago. I realized when I had the phone that after an amount of time, the text messages would be deleted. I am wondering if the device would hold text messages if the device was no longer active.

By history, if you mean old text- yes, I've fired up an older BlackBerry that was inactive for a few years. Charged the battery, and I had old text still on my phone from the last time I had text someone on it. Even now, after turning on my Z10, I'm seeing text from March- which was the last time I updated the OS.
