You were almost got hit by electrostatic discharge. A static charge had built up as you moved around, and when you touched the PC either directly or by holding something connected to the USB cable the charge escaped to earth/ground though the PC. This is relatively common, more often in winter where you have a heated (dry) indoor environment and you may be wearing more clothing which tends to help generate static charges. I get zapped about half the time I pick up my laptop from the coffee table

It is unlikely you were hit by a mains derived shock from defective equipment. It is easy to tell the difference - a static discharge is one unpredictable sharp zap and won't try to kill you, but a mains shock is longer duration, happens every time you touch the defective parts, and needs fixing before someone dies.
