[CrackBerry Question]

Using Desktop Backup/Restore Version 7.1.0.41 and both Bolds have Version 7.1.0.1066 Bundle 2879 Platform 5.1.0.699. I create a Backup file from my main Bold unit, then restore from that file to the spare. I tried several earlier backup files that had over 1800 addresses but restore still only showed 1675 (probably went 1676 before it quit, but I couldn't see that). I created a partial backup file with only the addresses in it, but restore process still quit at 1675 or 1676. I then tried manually adding addresses to the spare address file ("Contacts") and that worked ok, so doesn't seem to be a memory limit on the spare. I am suspecting there is some false "end of file" character in my original address book that stops the copying, but I don't know how to find out. Settings/Memory readout on main Bold shows 93,850K used for all databases, 1947 entries/642.2K used for address book. 5,333,806K free:
The spare bold shows 61,384K used for all databases, 1676 entries/551.3K used for address book, 41,270,009 free (which makes me wonder if the spare has an additional 32MB of memory, but I don't know how to tell that, either). The other anomaly is that the spare only accepted 6,782 email messages/27,932K from the Restore, which was less than half of what is on the main Bold.
Since there seems to be no way to read the Backup/Restore file, I can't determine its integrity, but it shows the right numbers during the dialogue when it is doing the restore process.

have you tried doing a device switch from the old one to the new one? then restoring the other data you want minus the contacts? it seems like this could be done.
