Every time my phone gets the Blackberry Sign next to the signal, my phone switches off. As long as my phone only had EDGE, it stays on. Why does it do this. My phone is useless at the moment

That sounds like a fairly serious issue. I'd recommend trying a factory reset using link, and if the problem persists you'd have to send it in for service. It may be a problem with the radio aray.
