I have recently purchased a Q5 to replace my bold handset and have been told by my Uk carrier that if i change over that the data will be outside of my current agreement for unlimited uk data. So i am trying to understand what the difference is and how they can change the agreement as i cannot find any mention of a restriction in the handset i can use on my agreement

With any OS7 device from BlackBerry your carrier must be a partner in what is known as BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).
That was part of the contract you were in, now with a BlackBerry10 device you'll need a new contract because BB10 doesn't use BIS.

    Cheers! From my STL-1

I would call a few different times or go into a store and try to get them to drop the BIS portion from your account but leave the rest of the account alone. Sometimes results can vary - you might want to checkout the section of the fourm on the different Carrier's and see if yours is listed. Others may have had the same issues.

A Q5 can work with BIS data and regular data plan, but a Bold cannot with a regular data plan. So if it's cheaper to go stay on a BIS plan, you can do that with a Q5.

To add, BIS also compresses data.
If you do the exact same things on your Q5 on a regular data plan as you did on the Bold on BIS, you will notice that your data usage may be up to 3 times over what it was on the Bold.
