Because it's recording at a high resolution. Are you recording at 720P or 1080P? 1080P will make a much larger file. About the only thing you can do is use an app (if there is one) or software on a computer to reduce the file size by converting to a lower resolution.
Yes, it's pretty stupid that BlackBerry doesn't let us record in 240,360 or480p. 720+p is ridiculous in size for 90% of the videos I record on my phone..
While the rest of the world (non BlackBerry users) have moved to communicating via videos and pictures, it is still impossible (or at least very unrealistic) to send a video clip from a bb10 device and BlackBerry devices all have horrible front facing cams.
Smh @ calling BlackBerry secure, private or a communication device. Out of the box, it's none of the above.

That's you! %99 of the videos I take I want it to be high quality! If I want to share it I can do it via YouTube or dropbox

Buddy, you aren't serious?
So RECORD IN 720 OR HIGHER!!
Who is stopping you?!?!
I said 90%
IN OTHER WORDS, 10% OF MY VIDEOS I WANT IN HD!
I can record in HD NOOO PROBLEM!!!!!! I can upload to dropbox or youtube NP!!
What I can't do is share video!! SMH
You wake up on the wrong side of the bed???(I did, if you're wondering)
I'm asking for options!! The ability to record in LOWER RESOLUTIONS.
Did I say something like get rid of 720p+? Noooo. I said add lower resolutions because recording at power level 9000 is a waste of data and storage for the types of videos being recorded and shared on whatsapp (op)
The playbook can record in 480p and I'm pretty sure it's got the same cam as the q5. The playbook can record videos small enough in size and high enough in quality (aka 480p) that can be shared via email!!
720p you get what, 12 seconds before you hit the 16 mb BBM limit? 20 seconds before the video is too big for email?
YouTube is nice... but it has a purpose. I use youtube for my HD videos. some of us would like to send a video directly to the recipient and not have to sit by a WiFi network
Youtube/720p to record a "dubsmash" "vine" "als ice bucket challenge".. fwiw, I don't do any of these.. and I don't want to lmao. but because I have a BlackBerry i actually CAN'T do these things. The rest of the world can. However, I would like to be able to share video!
It's wack that the wife sends me a bunch of pics to explain a situation because...... recording video is like wtf? Lmao
This is what snapchat is for. Communications with detail.. sharing the moment.
In a nutshell.. you're saying OP should use 50mbs of their data + YouTube or dropbox everytime they'd like to share a 20 second video clip??
PassportSQW100-1/10.3.2.500
Listen, I'll take it easy cause obviously you're slow or don't know how to read. I never said anything is stopping me, I said that I want my videos in HD, I gave you options of sharing videos, dropbox is super easy to use. I'm saying that I'm sure most of what BlackBerry is marketing to (business class) they aren't taking 20 seconds videos and trying to share them via MMS

Gotcha
Clearly I'm the slow one
@op open camera (android app) can record in 480p. Use that to record and share your vids
PassportSQW100-1/10.3.2.500
Wouldn't they be using data anyways?????
Posted via CB10
Yes, but video on ig is ~ 2mb/10secs ( I believe 640x640, not sure the fr etc). The videos op is trying to record and share with other don't need to be any higher quality than what is being shared with them

Check out this app.. it works really well for me to convert and size down my vids:
Video Shrinker

I too use video record for high rez mostly.. but when I go to BBM or email, I use this little app.. really handy..

Thanks for this. I knew there was an app that would satisfy the OP's needs but I couldn't remember what it was called.
Seems you can shrink it right down as small as 39p.

A good solution but it's not free fwiw
Ideally we should Have the feature (reacaling) built into the native video (and photo) editor. (Scaling pictures is possible but only when sending an email.)
And being able to record in lower resolutions than 720p should be a no-brainer.. the hardware supports it..
Not being able to is a communications limitation. Whether BlackBerry 10 users want to believe it or not doesn't matter.. How do BlackBerry users have an opinion on sending "mms" videos if the CAN'T send/record them?
PassportSQW100-1/10.3.2.500
I'm not going to blame BlackBerry for not having this feature.
My handheld JVC video recorder which records high def videos doesn't have this feature to compress down videos. I still have to export the file to a PC and run another program to compress.
I also don't think the Video Shrinker app is expensive.. can't remember what I paid for it but it was definitely worth the price.
Maybe BlackBerry will put this capability in a later OS like they did with the flashlight.. but for me paying for the app is no big deal.
Maybe there's an equivalent free Android app that you can grab instead.

There's free android alternatives, quite a few of them.
Pretty sure your jvc wasn't designed to be a communications device, was it? Could you choose what resolution to record in? HD vs SD?
PassportSQW100-1/10.3.2.500
No my JVC wasn't designed as a communication device and I can change from HD down to 480p (DVD Quality) - still to big to email or text most videos. So I still have to do more work with it if I need to send it..
So I'm just going to leave this with an Apple quote.. "There's an app for that" and maybe if enough people ask for it.. I'm sure BlackBerry will listen and provide a software enhancement later.
Keep the faith!

U can download this video recorder that can adjust the resolution before you video.

Or the demo

I still can't for the life of me figure out why this isn't a built in feature.

Image Resizer app.

I will probably end up purchasing this App for that sole purpose, to be able to share certain videos via mms.. thanks for the info..
I hope BlackBerry integrates a lot of these much needed features into the OS as it seems they have been doing. :-)

The new version of camera + now supports incredibly low resolutions.
Posted via CB10
Did you mean Camera++ by I&N MobiSoft (there is another app with the same name)?
Posted via CB10
I did thanks.
Posted via CB10
I had same issue. I turned off video stab and con focus in camera settings. Now can send video via text.
