I recently updated to the Leap and will be doing a device switch after I'm done work. But I'm reading that doing a restore from blackberry link of my backup of my current phones (q10) and applying it to my new phone (Leap) will create some battery life problems

I think no matter what you do, the first couple of days are going to be harder on your battery than forever afterwards. There are some folks that believe it to be a myth but I promise it will happen at first when it is re-syncing all of your messages and accounts and media from your SD card. It's just the way it goes. Do a device switch in link. It will save you a lot of time. Unless you had your old device loaded with a bunch of stuff you didn't need and you want a fresh start. Otherwise, don't worry.
