I want to know if a 9900 will work for voice and text without me ever having to test it out on a working AT&T SIM.

Just recently received an AT&T locked Bold 9900 from a reputable seller from a reputable site. (which is also in pretty pristine condition considering). I checked and the IMEI is white listed and ready for activation.

But I have a buddy's old sim card and it reads "SIM not provisioned:2" and the signal reads as SOS. I found some info on CB on what it means.

And I currently use T-Mobile and will use the Bold as a backup to another backup if need be and after getting it unlocked later down the road.

    MEPDs:
    SIM Card: Security Disabled
    SIM Disabled
    Network Active
    Network Subset Disabled
    Service Provider Disabled
    Corporate Disabled

    BBVE all passed

    Device Analyzer Results:
    Antenna Ready Passed
    Voice Ready Failed
    Data Ready Failed

It sounds like the SIM reader is fine, since it's detecting the old SIM. You can confirm this with your TMO SIM as well.

But without an AT&T network-using SIM, there isn't much more you can do.

OK, thanks! In theory, if I insert a working AT&T SIM it should be able to send text and make phone calls?

Btw, the build quality is top notch with the weight, dimensions, and blend of materials (glass weave, soft touch, steel, plastic, and glass).

Yes. But AT&T had this annoying practice (at least on the postpaid side) of adding a data plan to your account if you have a smartphone, regardless of whether you want one or not.
