According to AT&T, I my Z30 is not compatible with their network despite the phone is unlocked. Can anything be done about this? Is it an OS thing?

You have to check the network bands to see if it's compatible
Don't just listen to the reps, they have their heads up their rear ends half the time
If it's compatible, then just plug in the sim card and you're ready to go

    This could be correct.

Every phone has a certain amount of "Bands" that are "installed" on it. Unless the device shares at least 1 band with the Carrier, you won't be able to connect to it.

I'm not exactly sure how American carrier work as some are CDMA or GSM or something like that but if you live any where else in the world, a Z30 will at least give you 3G connectivity.

Bottom line, if you don't have the bands, nothing can be done unfortunately and it's NOT and OS problem.
